What could we forget to bring to the recruit school? Guide for small essential details

It is not uncommon, when you prepare your bag for the recruit school, to forget some small essential elements. Between the stress of departure and the amount of equipment to be organized, some recruits leave it aside objects which, however, could well improve their daily lives. Here is a list of what we often forget, and which could really make the difference during your training.

1. Shoulder watch: Punctuality is essential

Having a watch is more than useful at the recruit school is almost essential. The days are meticulously planned, and you will have to respect the schedules to the nearest second. A resistant watch, ideally waterproof and robust, will allow you to stay on time, especially during external exercises where you may not have your phone at hand.

Trick : Opt for a watch with basic but reliable functions. Recruits that participate in intensive exercises often opt for solid military watches, suitable for outdoor use.

2. Earrings: to sleep better

Sleeping in a room shared with other recruits can sometimes be a challenge. Between the snoring, late discussions, and ambient noises of the barracks, the earplugs will allow you to enjoy a restful sleep.

Trick : It is recommended to bring several pairs in case you lose it during the first days.

3. Sun cream and lip stick: protect your skin

Even in Switzerland, external exercises can expose you to the sun for long hours, especially if you are in the mountains or on open grounds. Bringing sunscreen and a lipstick will protect you from sunburn and help you avoid dehydration of the lips.

Trick : Choose a water -resistant sunscreen and a lipstick containing a sunscreen. These products will be useful to you not only during the summer, but also in winter at high altitude.

4. Personal sewing bag: Quick repairs

Uniforms can sometimes undergo a few hooks during physical exercises or intensive training. Having a small sewing kit with you (including needles, thread and buttons) will allow you to make emergency repairs on your uniform or your equipment.

Trick : If your section has personalized badges, you can sew them on your uniform to proudly display your membership of the unit, while strengthening the spirit of cohesion.

5. Tongs or shower sandals: hygiene above all

The common showers are the daily life of the recruit school. To avoid any risk of infection or simply to improve your comfort, it is recommended to bring a pair of flip -flops or sandals to wear in showers.

Trick : Light plastic flip -flops are easy to store and dry quickly. They will be one of your essentials for the shower.

6. Deodoring for shoes: Keep your fresh boots

After long days spent in boots, it is normal for them to need a little fresh stroke. A deodorizer for shoes will allow you to keep your boots (and the common room) in good hygiene conditions.

Trick : Deodoring sprays specially designed for shoes are perfect for neutralizing odors and prolonging the lifespan of your boots.

7. Nail scissors or nail cutters: for personal hygiene

Details count at the recruit school, and this includes maintaining your personal hygiene. A nail scissors are practical tools that you will like to have with you. Cleanliness inspections sometimes include this kind of detail.

Trick : Add a small set of personal hygiene (niggles, files, tweezers) in your toiletry bag to be ready in any situation.

8. External charger (PowerBank): Keep your loaded phone

The use of the phone will be limited during the day, but having an external charger can save you during permissions or long training days where the sockets are inaccessible. A PowerBank allows you to load your phone without needing a wall outlet, especially if you are on the go.

Trick : Take a light PowerBank model but with sufficient capacity for at least two complete recharges.

9. Waterproof bag or plastic bag: to separate wet clothes

You may have to manage wet or dirty clothes at one time or another. Having a plastic bag or a waterproof bag in your equipment will allow you to separate wet clothes from the rest of your things, particularly useful after the outdoor exercises in the rain or snow.

Trick : Use a reusable and resistant plastic bag to limit your environmental impact while keeping your business well organized.

What we too often forget

In addition to this list, here are some objects which, although small, can be very useful:

  • Notepad and pen : Practice for taking notes on missions or during training.
  • Magster for watch and other electronic devices : If you use a connected watch or any other device, do not forget to take their respective charger.
  • Padlock : To secure your business in common lockers.
